Help me give my students much needed supplies for annotating texts, creating anchor charts for learning new strategies in reading and writing. Also, this allows me to give each student a journal to write their own story.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a Title I school. My school is 98% free lunch and have a hard time coming to school with what many of us call the "basics". My students are gifted and athletic. My students are my kids. I bring them snacks, pencils, paper, and they know that they are loved.
My students are challenged and creative.
They are resilient and strong. They are greater than they realize and I give them an opportunity to write in journals on their experiences and who they are. I have cried reading these.
Some of the students call me "Ma", and I have become so close to them that once they graduate, many keep in touch with me and come back to say hello and let me know how they are doing.
My hope is to see them excel in their endeavors and that they fully comprehend what they are capable of much more than they often realize.
My Project
These materials will help students in learning new reading and writing strategies and creating anchor charts to synthesize their learning into showing what they are learning.
These materials will be used for in-class learning and allow students to teach others what they are learning.
The materials and supplies will provide the students to write in their own journals to have a way to communicate what they are experiencing by journaling about it. It allows them to have a voice.
Also, annotating is an essential way to comprehend what we are reading by breaking down texts and focusing on specific details to learn how to use textual evidence to support their analysis.
