This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from all different areas of the community and I service a mixture of K-8th grade students. Some from IEP students to preteens/teens and some just trying to get through the day. Regardless the reason, each one is going through different emotional and mental stages. Although there are a lot of them, each student is resilient, caring, love to learn and love to be at school. Unfortunately, they have lost many hours of learning and have suffered the disconnection of building peer relationships because of the different life changes. However, I’m proud to say, they still seem to work hard and push through those challenges the best they can. Because of these life changes, students have struggled with their mental health and behaviors. If I can help all my students learn new skills and provide them extra tools while in class then they can grow personally and academically. Besides mental health and behaviors, some students come to school hungry which this is another stressor they do not need. To help support my students, I am hoping to supply my classrooms with additional tools, skills and an extra snack that will help support their academic success.

My Project

The requested resources will help provide my students with tools and skills that will benefit their social-emotional and academic learning. The social-emotional curriculum will help increase the skills being taught and an understanding of their own emotions. The tools such as the emotion and wobble cushions/lap blanket will help those wiggly students focus, sensory toys/balance ball for decreasing anxiety and increase focusing, conversation starters for students who struggle with communication, a stuffy for the younger grades to cuddle, noise reducers such as headphones/monitor for those loud moments or sensory students. The stories/books will help with calming and monitoring their emotions and journals for the older students to write down their emotions. Additionally, the extra snacks will help with their hungry belly's and disinfectants to help keep the classrooms free and safe from additional germs or COVID related germs.
