Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have 25 active, curious students in my class. They love to read, joke and play games. Our school is the most diverse in southern Arizona - we have families from all over the world. I teach a "mainstream" class so I teach native English speakers and English as a Second Language students who have demonstrated proficiency in English. One third of my class speaks another language besides English at home.
My students feel safe and comfortable at school.
For many of them, it is the only place they receive enough food and attention. My students live in poverty and all of them qualify for free lunch. They are very resilient and adaptable because despite personal challenges, they arrive at school every day eager for new experiences.
My Project
I produce a lot of materials on my home printer. I make posters, labels, task cards and center manipulatives for my students to use as instructional aids. The ink goes very quickly! I have many more electronic resources that I cannot print yet because of lack of ink. We need a paper cutter to cut the materials before laminating. Don't worry, though, the students will not be using the paper cutter. My students will, however, use the file box to organize their papers and retrieve missed work.
Frixion erasable pens are amazing!
I currently use them while modeling writing on the document camera for my students. They love seeing me erase pen marks and it would make sense for them to use the pens as well. They need a writing implement that can be erased and pencils are a nuisance. Also, the kids will be more motivated to write if they get to use a cool pen!
