My students are an amazing and fun group of five, six and seven-year-olds. They love to read, dance, paint, play instruments and explore outside. My students have a variety of special needs, including ASD and other communication delays, and they learn best through hands-on activities.
Activities that incorporate highly-engaging, developmentally appropriate materials are important to building social skills as well as building academic growth.
To build these skills, we play games, have a daily read-aloud and writing activities, participate in circle time, and provide opportunities for students to practice sensory regulation. I am constantly learning from my class, and I am so proud when I see their progress!
My students have the opportunity to participate in an Extended School Year program to maintain their academic and social skills through the summer months. In order to make this program as engaging as possible, I am requesting items such as ocean animal figures, sea-colored sensory beads and board games to make our summer activities fun and cool!
To make sure that students have safe and physically distant activities, we also need some special items for our summer program including a bubble machine and multiple sets of sensory items and materials.
