I need funding for lodging so I can attend a summer Reading Institute. I am very excited to attend this institute as it is through the Reading and Writing Project at Columbia University!

My Students

My school is special in the way we think about kids. Our vision is that kids are viewed in their entirety, meaning, they are seen for who they are socially and emotionally before academically. My students have the drive to help each other make good choices for our community. When I come to work every day, my job is always to foster an environment that values people and process over test scores.

I am proud to be a part of the Stevenson community and believe that my students will all grow up to be caring and inclusive adults.

We value kindness and growth with an authenticity that I have not seen before. This school truly is special.

My Project

I may possibly be moving to a new grade level next year and plan to use this institute to gain knowledge about reading in this new grade level. My time will be well spent working on my craft and developing skills to make reading accessible to my new students. Although I have been teaching kindergarten for 11 years, moving to first grade will be challenging and I feel this program will give me some tools to help students be successful. This program is something I have been trying to go to for years and have always been waitlisted. Fortunately, I was accepted this year and it happens to be a very good time in my career!
