Summer Fun: Learning Through Play!

Help me give my students Play-doh, sidewalk chalk, Melissa and Doug reusable sticker pads and storage containers to protect them so they can practice their language skills over the summer!

My Project

Summer can be a time to play and learn especially for students working on speech and language skills. This project will provide simple, engaging materials like sidewalk chalk, Play-Doh, and reusable sticker pads to help students keep learning through play.

Students will use sidewalk chalk to draw and describe pictures, answer WH-questions, and follow directions like “draw a big circle and add three small triangles around it.” With Play-Doh, they will build objects and practice describing them using details such as color, size, and function, as well as explain the steps they took to create them.

Reusable sticker pads will allow students to create scenes and tell stories, helping them build sentences, use describing words, and strengthen their imagination.

These hands-on activities make learning feel fun and natural while supporting vocabulary, sentence structure, listening, and social communication skills. By keeping students engaged over the summer, these materials will help them return to school more confident and ready to learn.

The sandwich bags will be used to send home mini bags for bracelet making from beads and pipe cleaners we already have. The storage tote will hold the Melissa and Doug pads to keep them from being damaged. The toy storage totes will keep the chalk and playdoh safe until they make it into their summer language bags.
