Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach third grade in Title I public school in Prince George's County, Maryland. I teach math and science to 47 third graders. I have 23 students in my first period and 24 in my second period. My students come from families with limited income and resources. Most of the parents have limited English proficiency and multiple jobs to meet their needs. These factors prevent the students from exceeding to their best ability. About 60% of students are Hispanics with limited English proficiency. Most students have free or reduced-price lunch in our school.
The students are so eager to learn new concepts that are being taught.
My ultimate goal is to be able to prepare students with skills in order to make sure they are college and career ready. I want to focus on the students' learning since I cannot control their life outside my classroom doors.
My Project
Having a small group easel will help me up an instant learning station anywhere in the classroom. It will hold books, markers, with a convenient storage chart on the back with roomy pockets and pouches, so teaching tools & supplies are always within reach!
Help me give my students a small group easel that we can use to work together and model our daily learning.
Modeling is essential and this can be done effectively with a small group easel. Students are in close proximity which will keep them engaged. What makes this small group easel even more special is that it can be set up anywhere in the classroom with a storage chart on the back. I can create a reteaching station for students to review concepts. We will model math problem solutions. We can manipulate magnetic numbers with the easel, as well as use the easel to hang small chart paper and posters.
