This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students have a variety of social, emotional, and behavioral disabilities. They require a multi-sensory approach to learning. We are in the process of revamping our sensory integration and self-regulation room for our students. Many of the children we service do not yet possess the skills to recognize, label, and manipulate their feelings.

Being able to self-regulate would enhance their learning and increase participation.

Trauma, social-emotional and behavioral diagnoses have widened the achievement gap for our students. Many of our students have missed valuable instruction time due to their inability to regulate in the classroom. We are a large urban school district north of Boston, MA.

My Project

Students with social-emotional disabilities have a difficult time with self-regulation. This can cause a significant disruption in their ability to access curriculum. Our students require hands-on tools and direct instruction in self-regulation and social skills.

All students deserve the necessary tools for success.

This Donors Choose project will allow us to provide therapeutic supports to our students who have been heavily impacted by the pandemic. The books and materials will help us teach specific skills: self-regulation, bullying prevention, empathy, social and personal awareness and responsibility. The sensory items will provide the tactile input our students' need throughout the school day.
