"Learn the past, watch the present, and create the future."

I'm working to teach my 5th graders that learning from the past will have a significant impact on the way that they shape the future.

Although they are only 10 and 11 years old, they are already making big decisions that will affect themselves and their city for many years to come!

My Project

Reading fantastic pieces of historical fiction like "Bud, Not Buddy" by Christopher Paul Curtis is one of our favorite ways to study the past. Dynamic characters like Bud help make the past come alive, and this humorous, action-packed text is sure to engross even my struggling readers. This proposal requests a copy of "Bud, Not Buddy" for each of my students, along with a Spanish version for my students who are still developing their English skills. It also includes a teacher guide and an audio version of the book.

I can't wait to start reading this Coretta Scott King award winner with my 5th graders!

I know that they will fall in love with the characters, and it will be a great tool to use in both reading and social studies lessons. Thank you in advance for supporting my fabulous 5th graders!
