Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students at our public school come from a low-income based population. The school has 100% of the students participate in a free lunch and breakfast program. Over half of the students are of Hispanic background and many speak English as a second language.

Our students love to learn about STEM; however, our parents' income levels often limit these opportunities.

This greatly diminishes their children's chances for building exciting background knowledge and it limits their exposure to valuable learning experiences.

My Project

Our school's location is in the perfect location to view over 90% of the 2017 August 21st Solar Eclipse. It starts at 10:10 am and ends by 12:50 pm Mountain Standard Time. Our cafeteria is providing a picnic lunch for all of the 550 staff and students in the school as a way of celebrating this unique event.

To view the eclipse safely, everyone participating in this rare event will need solar eclipse glasses.

This is a District wide STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) happening which will expose the students to a phenomenon that will not occur in this area again in their lifetime.
