This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are craving materials that will help them to reach their goals both in math and reading.

My 2nd grade students attend a Title 1 school which is suffering budget short falls in a low economic area of the city.

Due to economic constraints, the parents of my students are not always able to help them with their math and reading skills. As a Title 1 school, we not only feed their bodies but have to feed their minds, but we don't always have the creative materials to do this.

My Project

My students need 10 Educational Insights Math Whiz to practice their math fact family and The Kids of the Polk Street School series to read at their level. We desperately need electronic handheld math fact quiz to increase their knowledge and speed in math. Establishing these basic facts will increase their critical thinking with real world math problems. Another essential that is crucial for my classroom to succeed are reading materials. My goal for my second graders is to expand their reading from below first grade to beginning third grade or beyond by the end of second grade. In order to do this, our class library needs to grow to meet their needs.

Like a garden that needs to be nurtured, so do my students.
