My Students
"Wow! That actually sounded good!" My heart is full when I hear my students get excited about playing music together. I am blessed to teach at a Title I school in Oklahoma City that values the importance of the arts in each child's education. Even though many of my students face challenges such as poverty and homelessness, they come to school with a smile and desire to learn. Their resiliency inspires me to be the best teacher I can possibly be!
My Project
Stringed instruments are extremely sensitive to changes in temperature. This time of year, the constant fluctuation between cold nights and warm afternoons causes them to expand and contract multiple times a day. This results in the strings rubbing against the bridge and nut, wearing down, and breaking more easily. The instruments at our school are shared between all grades, third through fifth, and are put through a lot of use. A and D strings are used most often for beginning students and wear out more quickly. My students are loving strings and improving every day, but our stash of extra strings is starting to dwindle.
