String It Up, Please! (Part II)

My students need strings (and bows) to ensure that every instrument is in appropriate playing condition.

My Students

Our orchestra students have made the commitment to be part of our expanding program. I have a responsibility to ensure that every student is provided a functional instrument. Now, with over 130 students enrolled in orchestra (and zero budget), you can help ensure the sustainability of our program.

Our students, school, and community are defined by their hard working nature.

This singular trait, which is shared by both students, school faculty, administration, and the community at large, continues to be the primary catalyst behind our continued student and school successes. While our school has demonstrated a hard working, no excuses mentality, we, like many other schools and programs, face unprecedented financial challenges. Cuts in funding, or the absence of a budget allotment entirely, have placed larger and larger burdens on our program as it relates supporting our student-musicians. Since our initial project just this fall (String It Up, Please!), we have held our annual winter concert, had a string quartet featured on local television, had students perform in a popular local music venue as invited guests, added 30 additional students to our ensembles, and recently, watched as a record number of students were accepted into local honor groups.

My Project

By supplying strings and bows for our student-musicians, you can help ensure that both current and future students will have both the opportunity to pursue the music education opportunity of their choosing (in this case, orchestra). The materials requested in this modest project are at once economical, essential, and of quality. As I have previously stated, many projects seek to address a need that is difficult to define or quantify. Others provide a one-time benefit whose impact is hard to assess. With this project, you can rest assured knowing that your support, be it large or small, is being implemented as part of a larger, long term plan that strives to ensure the sustainability of music education opportunities for all who care to participate.

In the fall, we took the first step in ensuring music opportunities for all by fulfilling our initial "String It Up, Please" project.

At the time, I mentioned that creating a sustainable program would take time, and that no one project would accomplish this goal. Since then we have stayed true to our stated objectives, as is detailed above (i.e., increased enrollment, varied opportunities, quantifiable results, etc). Now, it is time for us to take our second step towards achieving this goal.
