My Students

I am a 5th grade teacher at a school in Rochester, NY. This year, I will have 24 amazing, energetic, and enthusiastic students in my classroom. I work to make my classroom a safe, inviting, and engaging place to learn. Throughout our school day, my students work independently, one-on-one with me, in partners, and in small groups. In order to break up the time that students spend sitting in chairs, I am hoping to get 12 stools that my students can choose to sit at during our small groups sessions.

My Project

Without a variety of furniture in the classroom, students are expected to sit in their chair for the majority of the time. While we do a lot of cooperative group work and moving around in our classroom, we often need to be seated to work together effectively. These stools will give my students a break from sitting in a regular desk and chair, and allow us to move around the room and work in different areas.

Flexible seating gives students the option to choose where they would like to get their work done, and we all like being given a choice!
