Stocking Up Science Supplies

Help me give my students items like distilled vinegar, lunch bags, and paper cups for a refresh of science supplies for our Mystery Science lessons.

My Project

Our 5th graders learn science through a program called Mystery Science. Within the program, the main character, Doug, walks students through a real-life mystery involving science focused on the Next Generation Science Standards. At the 5th grade level, we have four areas of study. The water and earth's systems. Chemical reactions and properties of matter. Stars and the solar system, ecosystems and the food web. With the hands-on approach to the science lessons, students use an abundance of everyday materials from vinegar and glue to toothpicks, baking soda, and salt.

The unit that students love the most is our chemical reactions and properties of matter.

They get to experience mixing everyday materials to create chemical reactions. One of their favorite lessons is to mix products and watch a Ziploc bag fill with air until it POPS! Students make connections to real-world events such as understanding why cake batter rises. With the amount of students using these materials, our supplies are depleted by the end of the year and require a restock. Thanks for your consideration in donating to this project so we have the necessary supplies for science.
