Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students have the biggest imaginations and the brightest ideas. They love mixing colors, creating boldly, and expressing themselves in ways that surprise and inspire us every day. However, many of their little hands are still working hard to build the strength and coordination needed. Tasks that seem simple to adults require enormous effort from our young learners. Technology is not helping with these needed skills.

We want to introduce a knitting club as a gentle way to strengthen those growing hands while teaching patience in a world that moves too fast and with too much damaging technology exposure.

Help me give them the ability to learn to knit, boosts fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, meditative skills that enhance cognitive development and build community.

Knitting teaches perseverance, problem-solving, counting, and pattern recognition in a hands-on, joyful way. Most importantly, it teaches children that beautiful things take time.

Student will learn simple stitches to create their own granny square which will be joined into one large “friendship blanket” — a physical reminder that every child’s effort matters and that together we create something stronger, warmer, and more beautiful than we could ever do alone.

With your support, our classroom will become a space where focus deepens, resilience grows, and community is woven together — stitch by stitch.
