Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In 1956 the Council of Physical Fitness was founded and in 2010 First Lady Michelle Obama launched Let's Move. Let's Move is a movement promoting raising healthier kids. Our children are facing obesity problems which unfortunately, affect their health as well as their academic performance.

Our school is brand new.

My students are 4th graders from the inner city. The majority of them are socioeconomically disadvantaged. Many come from broken homes or single parent homes. The neighborhood is not safe and parents are reluctant to let their children play outside. The great majority of my students live in apartments and need a place to play. The students are eager to be physically active. They desire to be engaged in activity, and learn through play while practicing physical education grade level standards. Students have expressed an interest in dance. I would love to be able to provide them with the resources to have them see their interest explored. All students should have and deserve access to, fun and engaging activity.

My Project

I applaud our First Lady Michelle Obama for launching the "Let's Move," an initiative promoting raising healthier kids. Many of our students do not have the opportunity to be physically active throughout the day. As a result, many of my students are obese and lack energy. My class needs to be provided with a daily routine promoting more rigorous workouts. I am seeking the funding of a Wii console along with the workout games which will make physical education fun, engaging and motivating. No longer will I hear the complaints when PE time is announced. On the contrary, they will come to school eager to move and participate. I envision a physical education program that will promote not only activity and a healthy lifestyle, but other values such as fairness, sportsmanship and discipline.

It is so important for my students to have access to physical education tools such as the Wii and the dance videos.

These tools will provide a physical education which is fun and inviting. School can be a safe place to stay active and where they can feel the mind-body connection through physical movement. My students will look forward to coming to school to their daily Wii workouts. Help stimulate their brains though exercise!
