Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at the tip of Texas, bordering Mexico, where my students speak "Spanglish". They face many challenges such as dyslexia, special needs, and are socioeconomically disadvantaged, but that doesn't stop them from dreaming big.

They are determined, hard-working children, willing to learn no matter their circumstances.

I teach second-grade bilingual students who inspire me daily. These students come every day excited to start class. They enjoy hands-on activities, crafts, group activities, and especially working with technology. They face many challenges, but they don't let these challenges take over their learning experience.

Many students are economically disadvantaged. Many come without knowing English, but with their determination and support from their families, they can conquer everything. However, none of those factors affect these children because they want to learn. It is very satisfying seeing all these children progress throughout the school year.

I work at a very supportive school where students come first. We are all about meeting their needs. Our administrators have created a safe, happy environment for everyone: students, staff, teachers, and parents. I love working at the very tip of Texas, where my students are unique and wonderful.

My Project

Tough times we are living right now! Everyone is going through social and emotional troubles, especially children. I have seen students being sad because of a lack of socialization. As a teacher, I am trying to fill as many educational gaps during this time. However, my number one priority right one is their emotional well-being. I want my students to feel safe coming to school.

My students will greatly benefit from a cordless Glue Gun for their Science projects and to use during their self-care and crafting time.

We are using a program for mental health everyday. My students’ health and safety come first. With this project funded, my students will be allowed to create various projects that promote self-care. They will print and create posters to promote self-care among the school. Students will create these items and pass them out for a self-care campaign we will start for Valentine’s day. They will also use their iPads to record videos about self-care. They will use their iPads to design using an app that develops their math and science skills.

This project will also allow my students to create their Science projects in a more professional way. Using this Ryobi glue gun will allow for a better presentation. I am sure this project will lift up many people's spirits at school.
