My Students

Education is always changing and STEM in the classroom increases across grade levels, the types of activities and learning experiences students in primary grades have access to must expand to keep pace and meet expectations. First graders are always eager to learn and they love STEM activities.

Morningside STEM Elementary opened up last year in 2015.

Since our school is considered a STEM focused school, I would love to find more ways to incorporate STEM into our classroom. First grade is the year where students learn many new important concepts including counting by twos, fives, and tens, adding, subtracting, and also the vital concepts and skills needed to learn how to read. STEM activities can be incorporated into Reading, Math, Science, and also writing There are a lot of STEM projects and activities our there, but a lot of them are used for upper elementary. At Morningside STEM Elementary we challenge students to be independent thinkers. We believe in changing the future by encouraging creativity, independent thinking, and unlimited possibilities.

My Project

I have found some great STEM kits that are age appropriate for my students. I would love to use these kits to help energize my students to participate in class. I have noticed that with some of the activities I have used in my classroom, that if students are excited about creating and drawing that they will be more willing to write about what they created or even to read more information to make their plan better. These STEM kits that I am asking for are at their level so they will be more independent and are able to accomplish a task without getting frustrated or lost in content that is not at their level.

If this project gets funded, my students will enjoy more STEM activities in the classroom.

STEM Education attempts to transform the typical teacher-centered classroom by encouraging a curriculum that is driven by problem-solving, discovery, exploratory learning, and require students to actively engage a situation in order to find its solution.
