My students need a variety of items in order to explore and learn science through different STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and music) activities.
As a teacher in a school with 96% of our students receiving free and reduced lunch, I see that my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Because of these challenges, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences that will spark their love of learning by discovering the fabulous world of science.
With your help I will be able to provide fun learning experiments in science and engineering to 45 kindergartners and first graders!
Currently, I am supplementing my students with as much hands on discovery as I can but I am lacking the resources to do this with all of the standards I teach. It is rewarding to see the excitement and joy these students show when learning through hands-on experimentation and I would like to offer them more.
My Project
My students LOVE being "scientists". If you have never seen 40+ kindergarten and first graders transform from 5 and 6 year olds into scientists, engineers and computer programmers , then you are missing out. They love discovering things about the world through hands-on experimentation and activities. The materials I am requesting will help make that happen. With these items, my students will be able to explore and learn about a variety of scientific concepts. For example, my students will become engineers and design different ramps in order to then transform into scientists to explore the concept of force and motion. Using the Wacky Weather kit, my students will become meteorologists and explore weather concepts. I will be able to supplement my instruction with hands-on activities that will inspire my students to continue to learn.
