My students are an energetic and enthusiastic group of first graders in a Title I school. They are at the age where excitement permeates through every aspect of learning. My students learn best through hands on, engaging lessons that require them to build, discover, and learn through and with each other. They enjoy working cooperatively and building upon different ideas.
When given the opportunity, my students enjoy diving into a problem and discovering multiple, innovative solutions.
It is truly a remarkable event to watch first graders help each other by investigating through an experiment or problem solving a creation together. They excel in giving positive feedback about how to better unravel the threads of an experiment or challenge. I am constantly astounded at the level of creativity and "out of the box" thinking that I am privileged to witness daily.
My Project
Hands-on learning is an important element in my classroom. I firmly believe children learn through doing and discovering on their own. Active engagement and high-interest lessons allow students to become successful thinkers and problem solvers.
STEM lessons allow students to discover solutions to real-world problems in innovative ways.
STEM materials such as the Fairy Tales Problem Solving Kit and the Active Play STEM Early Learning Kit allow students to think critically about a problem that needs solving. Whether it is trying to build a raft for the Gingerbread Man to cross the river, or determining how much force is needed to make a car roll quickly down an inclined plane, STEM kits will provide the way. Allowing students the chance to experiment and solve problems builds students who are critical thinkers and are empowered to become future innovators.
