My Students

There is no such thing as a typical day in my classroom. I work with students who have severe behavioral challenges that bring with them academic challenges as well. I have the opportunity to work with them and help them to learn replacement behaviors.

My students face challenges in dealing with behavioral issues.

They are bright students who have a desire to learn but face unique challenges. My job is to help them overcome the behavioral issues that are negatively impacting their academics. These students love technology, and it is a positive incentive for them.

My Project

My students struggle with social and emotional skills. They typically end up in my classroom after several years of struggle in a mainstream classroom. They are great kids who just need a little extra support. These items will give us fun ways to explore topics that are related to our core. It will allow them to experiment and learn in ways that allow them to go beyond just book learning which can frequently frustrate them. My students will be able to access resources that are typically only available in mainstream classrooms. This will allow them to participate in STEM lessons that we otherwise would not be able to. They will learn about problem solving, coding, and troubleshooting. This will be beneficial to them in terms of job skills, but for my population of students it will also benefit them with their behavior. The goal for them is help them learn to be less impulsive and this will give them the opportunity to put those skills to the test as they have to troubleshoot code and figure out complex problems.
