Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a public middle school in the Bronx. My students are energetic, enthusiastic, and curious about the world around them. The school is located in an "inner-city" neighborhood, and the kids face a lot of challenges in their daily lives. Despite facing many obstacles, they strive to do their best for themselves, their school, and their families. The dedicated staff at my school is trying their best to nurture youth of integrity who will one day become leaders that make a positive impact in their local and global communities.

My Project

Help us grow fresh produce in our classroom! I have taught students that plants can grow without soil. They have written scientific explanations that claim that plants get the matter they need to grow from carbon dioxide in the air and water. These kits would allow them to see this phenomena in action!

With the STEM in Action - Food Desert Kits, students explore their own dietary needs and how to grow fresh produce without soil.

By using critical thinking, communication, and collaboration to design systems for growing fresh produce, students prepare for essential skills of the 21st century. Students work through the Engineering Design Process – to learn the value of rethinking and supporting multiple solutions.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
