My students need flexible seating options and books for our stem projects.
This project expired on November 1, 2018.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
My 1st grade class is made up of such an incredible group of kids, ranging from those who struggle to remember the vowel sounds, to those reading at a 3rd grade level! One thing that they all have in common is a love of STEM projects. This past year, I worked very hard to find materials representing people in this field - especially women & minorities. My students need to see people like them that are successful in the sciences.
Most students learn best by moving around (flexible seating & hands on learning opportunities). These cushions will give my students another option for seating during reading groups. Being able to move around while learning is so important. The books will give my students, especially my girls, role models to look up to in the science fields. Stem projects are my students’ favorite because they associate it with playing. They love to build and test their designs. It’s loud. It’s fun. It’s difficult and they know it. My kiddos seem to push themselves more during stem, even when they don’t successfully build something. Failure seems to be more accepted.
