STEAM - Inky

Help me give my students an opportunity to introduce and explore creative and critical thinking skills, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation.

My Project

I have the pleasure of teaching a group of creative, respectful, and hungry-minded middle school students. We are proof that curiosity is contagious. My students are encouraged to take creative risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, and work through the creative process which removes limitations and replaces them with wonder, critique, inquiry, and innovation.

They are encouraged to explore and experiment with various media and techniques through the elements and principles of art and design as well as meet the State Department of Education standards.

I would like to form a collaboration between the students from my STEAM Art program with students from our Engineering (The Technology Student Association - TSA), and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) programs.

Throughout the 6-week unit, students from all three disciplines, STEAM Art, Engineering (TSA), and FCCLA will explore sublimation printmaking and gain an understanding of how the influence of temperature creates a transition of a substance from a solid state to a gaseous state. Resulting in high image quality and vivid and saturated colors for designing t-shirts and other fabrics.

The grant provides a wonderful opportunity to introduce and explore creative and critical thinking skills, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation.

The sublimation printmaking unit will build a stronger foundation for all three programs by providing another platform for expression and creative growth. It can help spark students’ creativity and build greater interest in the visual arts, entrepreneurialism, and help answer questions about everyday, real-world challenges. It will also help differentiate our students from other local and regional programs by expanding their awareness of engineering and the visual arts. Many schools do not offer this type of collaboration because of limited course offerings to their student body and costly materials.
