Our Kindergarten classroom is filled with 22 energetic, passionate learners. Our school is a targeted Title 1 school. Over half of our class receives free and reduced-price lunch and one third are English language learners.
Our classroom brings together students from all different backgrounds to explore and learn together!
Kindergarten is a huge year for development! We are learning how to read, write, count to 100, and add and subtract. However, in our classroom, we are learning so much more than our academics. We are realizing our creative talents through art and crafts. We are studying our environment and exploring what’s in the world. And, we are learning what it means to respect one another. We celebrate both our similarities and differences as one community of learners.
For many students in our class, Kindergarten is their first school experience since they did not go to pre-school. My students love to explore and truly love coming to school each day. It is my passion to make sure students leave Kindergarten with a foundation of loving to learn as they continue in their public school experience.
My young students are just beginning their public education careers and are so inquisitive about the world. STEM activities are often overlooked in Kindergarten as we emphasize becoming early readers. The K'NEX, Magnet Building Tiles and "Gears! Gears! Gears!" Building Set materials will allow hands-on STEM learning!
Students will become engineers and will use these materials to engage in STEM content through PLAY!
My students will also have these materials available to do them during developmental centers (free choice/play) time. That way, they will have the choice and opportunity to develop a life-long love for STEM learning.
All three materials will be used during literacy and math centers to create letters, retell stories, and develop fine motor and problem-solving skills.
If students develop a love for learning at an early age, it will continue for a lifetime! Let's start the exploration in Kindergarten!
