My Students

I teach in an urban school district. Many of my students come from working class households where college may not be a consideration for many of them. Students in business classes learn skills that make them career and college ready.

I teach elective business classes that help high school students explore courses that could result in future careers.

From Accounting to Marketing, many of my students have found their passion and career path based on a high school business course.

College or some type of post-secondary education becomes a reality for many of my students. Imagine being the first in your family to go to college. Because money to pay for college classes may be an issue for many of my students, Accounting 1 and Accounting 2 are part of the College Careers Pathway program at a local community college. Students enrolled in theses classes have the opportunity to earn college credit for each class, resulting in the ability to earn up to 6 college credits for free. This is a great benefit for my students, many of which come from low-income households.

My Project

Imagine how uncomfortable you would be if you were a six foot tall student sitting at a small desk during an 84 minute class period. At the end of a long day you might feel as though you could not sit still another minute! This is exactly what happened at the end of a long day with one of my energetic teenage students. Currently my students work at permanently mounted computer desks that do not allow for flexibility within the classroom and their options for seating arrangements are very limited. My students need the ability to move around and stretch their bodies.

Flexible seating using the Royal Seating 1600 Switch Sit or Stand Desk and Flash Mobile Sit-Down/Stand-Up Computer Desk will provide opportunities for my students to stretch their legs and backs while providing them with the option to work alone or in groups.

Mobile desks will provide the flexibility to move to different locations in the classroom. This will help the individual needs of my students resulting in improved concentration and focus on daily activities.
