Stand Up for Music: Music Stands for a Band Program
My students need music stands. Stands are to musicians as easels are to an artist. These stands will withstand the test of time and provide years of music opportunities.
In an inner-city school where kids often find themselves having to grow up faster than others, you'll find the hardest and most amazing high school band musicians using their passion for music to escape from the troubles that awaits for them outside their school gates. The band program was born just 6 years ago with the mission to provide it's highly divers student population and community with a fully comprehensive, high quality music education and performance program. Since then, we've grown to 131 enthusiastic musicians, vastly outgrowing our resources. For many of our students, their 9th grade year is their first opportunity to pick up an instrument and be a part of the amazing art of music making.
Our band students are a prime example that music can flourish in an inner-city school where low income, high poverty, and crime can often make the headlines.
Our students come to class eager to make music with their peers without ever complaining about the condition of their instruments, equipment or facilities. Students often say band is the reason they stay in school. The power of music is fully taking hold of our students and is making a positive impact in their lives.
My Project
A music stand is one of the most essential things a musician needs to be successful. Our program is outgrowing our music stand supply and is in great need of more stands. Our young program started with hand-me-down music stands from surrounding schools and donations where many of them had to be manipulated in various ways to make them work. We can often find students rushing to class to find the good working stands first or will they'll settle for sharing three, sometimes four students to a stand.
These sturdy Manhasset stands will provide students with a long-lasting reliable solution to our stand shortage.
No one wants to see students without the basic resources they need to be successful. These stands will be a huge investment not just to our current students but also to those who want to share in their musical endeavor later in the future.
