I am the special education teacher at TM School in Worcester. We are fully remote due to the status of COVID-19 in Worcester and we as a school are trying to find ways to keep students motivated. As a school we joined the ST Math community, which is a math program without words to help our students gain the math skills they need to succeed. Our students love the mascot of ST Math who is Jiji the penguin! We want to make our students smile at home during this difficult online learning experience with Jiji prizes!
My school is a high poverty school in the inner city of Worcester, where most students receive free lunch.
Many of my students battle from homelessness, extreme poverty, and challenging home situations. Despite the challenges my students face, they enter my classroom to find comfort, safety, and fun! We strive as a school family to make learning a fun, rewarding experience and to create a safe and comfortable environment.
My Project
St Math is a PreK-8 visual instructional program that leverages the brain's innate spatial-temporal reasoning ability to solve mathematical problems. Students are asked to play 20 minutes of ST Math a day and we are able to see their usage. Jiji is the mascot and our students love Jiji!
We want to mail prizes from the Jiji store to student homes to keep them loving math.
Pencils, pens, notebooks, bracelets, lanyards, stuffed Jijis, and Jiji water bottles will keep my students motivated.
All students love prizes and we want to continue giving them the positive praise even when we are remote learning. Play ST Math!
