We want our students to celebrate differences and the importance of caring for others. Activities about compassion can help cultivate an emotionally safe environment, and ease the way students are feeling. These items are card making kits, rock painting, paper cup crafts, books, and snacks. Card making kits encourages students to consider the feelings and experiences of their peers. By creating personalized cards for those going through a rough time, students learn to step into the shoes of others and understand how their actions can positively impact someone else's day. The rock painting will help promote random acts of kindness in the shape of painted rocks with inspirational words!
With your help, we would love to model to students our compassion for them by creating care packages that they can benefit from. Then our students will put together care packages for others in need and explain how an act of kindness and empathy can be passed along through them. The cooler will be used to store water and keep it cold when we go on field trips like the zoo. We also want our students to build empathy and compassion for wildlife.
We will measure success in our students’ understanding of compassion through discussions and written assignments from the books/workbooks in this project. We will also create opportunities for self-reflection and encourage students to assess their own growth in compassion through journaling and peer feedback. One of our biggest goals is to prioritize kindness and empathy which may then lead students to exhibit compassionate behavior towards others. By providing these essential tools, we will empower our students to become compassionate leaders who make a positive impact in their communities.
