My Students

We are a highly impacted public junior high school in Utah. Our students come from all over the globe. Students at my school come from over 45 countries and speak over 30 languages.. They love learning and enjoy school. Despite the challenges they face, they work hard and always try their best.

My scholars have the potential to change the world.

However, to do this, they need the tools and resources to help them achieve their own possibilities. Every day, they meet adversity and obstacles head-on and say, "We will not let you defeat us. We are AVID!" AVID, the program I teach, is a national program where students learn organization, note-taking, collaboration, and problem-solving to support them in their core classes and prepare them for success in high school, college, career, and beyond.

My Project

My students will use the highlighters to annotate their focused notes. We learn how to take great notes, which involves several steps. Annotation is a key part of their interaction with their notes, and helps make sure they can effectively remember what they're learning in school. Highlighting equals increased recall of key information, and they can use their note-taking and annotation skills far into the future.

My students are representative of diverse backgrounds, and should have the tools to celebrate that diversity.

With the Colors of the World colored pencils, they can truly show who they are when we do various projects that involve uses of color.
