Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My 26 kindergarten students come from diverse backgrounds. Many speak English as a second language and come from low-income households. Our school is a Title I school, meaning many students are at or below the poverty line. However, my students are eager to learn and develop new skills.

The t-shirts, dye, and HTV vinyl will help teach students about financial literacy while learning ways to be frugal yet stylish.

Making t-shirts is a way for students to create something on a budget. The snacks will be used to put into our classroom store. Students earn pride tickets for following our school expectations and then decide how to spend their tickets based on how much an item costs. These items will allow students to develop responsible choices and take calculated risks in financial situations with a lower-risk outcome. Students will also model their understanding of basic math and money skills and knowledge!

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
