The students in my class are ages 2-5 years with disabilities. They come from a low socioeconomic area. As such, a lot of families cannot afford to provide materials for their kids to learn at home. Our school is a Title I school. These children are a wonderful group to teach. They are curious and loving. They are funny and endearing. I watch them make the most of every experience, even when their participation may be limited. They are excited to come to school every day and make my heart smile. I want to provide them with the foundation they need to be successful in their education and life.
Unfortunately, working with preschool special needs students is very challenging during the pandemic.
They do not have materials at home to work with, and I am trying to provide theme boxes for them to borrow. This will allow them to develop skills in a hands on manner during this time.
My Project
Virtual learning is so hard for little ones. Especially when they do not have the materials to participate. They are not able to interact effectively in an online setting. They require hands on materials in order to learn and increase their skills. These students come from a low income area, and the parents cannot afford to provide these materials, such as puzzles and manipulatives.
Virtual learning kits are so important to these students.
This will allow them to learn and grow. The materials in this project will help create individual supply and theme boxes for students to use at home while we are virtually teaching. They will have items to create crafts and items to participate in guided lessons. The plastic boxes can be easily disinfected between students and will have all items that can be cleaned and prepared for the next student to safely use.
This project is very close to my heart. I miss my children terribly, and I want to offer them instruction that truly help them grow and learn.
