Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are learning disabled and giving them the opportunity to learn in a small setting is critical to their learning. We need to give them instruction in a variety of ways. Being able to work with them up close and personal give them a better chance at accessing the curriculum.

I teach in a Title 1 middle school in an urban city.

Title 1 means our school has a large low-income student population who live below the poverty level as outlined by the federal government. The majority of my student population comes from primarily Spanish speaking families and they live far below the poverty level. Some of my students are homeless or live in shelters. They are learning disabled and learn differently than the rest of the school's population. They struggle with basic concepts that many people take for granted. My students want to fit in with the others and they are aware of their differences. I give them the tools to be successful. If they know that someone cares about them they will be able to build their own self-esteem. Please help them by giving them the tools they need to feel comfortable in their learning environment.

My Project

I am asking for a kidney table that allows me to teach in a small group. It is shaped like a kidney and it gives the teacher an opportunity to be close to the student and their work allowing for more individual instruction. As a teacher, I will be able to access the student’s work immediately rather than have the student wait for the teacher to get around the classroom. Small group instruction at a table like this allows the teacher to give personal attention to the students who really need it most. Most students in my classroom require preferential seating and this table will accommodate their needs.

My students need the opportunity to have hands-on materials and using a kidney table allows the teacher to reach 6 to 8 students at one time.

The close proximity to the teacher is what each child in my classroom requires. This table will allow for this and give them the learning environment that is most beneficial to their individual needs.
