Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Learning through the use of games is always a fun way to practice the skills taught in class. All children love to play games but these games are designed to focus on life skills such as telling time, working on memory, sequencing, and money. These are skills that my students practice on a daily basis.

I am always looking to enrich a lesson with new and exciting materials.

When playing games my students learn many daily living skills like taking turns, waiting for their turn and managing their time as they place.

When I think about how many times in one day I sequence events, lessons, and steps I wonder how can I bring this lesson to a classroom center. By playing these type of games students learn build on their knowledge of doing things in steps to having the opportunity to visualize a start to finish assignment and put the cards in the cirrect "step order". Again, practicing these skills daily is important for retention.

Money is an area that my students find challenging. In a world where we use credit cards for everything, students still need to be taught how to identify a coin / dollar bill, add, subtract and give change if neccessary. When teaching money I always use visuals that are in the correct coin colors and use manipulatives such as plastis realistic coins. Practicing through the use of playing a games add to the lesson and makes it that much more engaging.

In closing, I hope you can see how important it is to learn through play. When my own children where young we would play many games. Now that my children are young adults they still talk about how much fun it was to have game night.
