Special Education Life Skills Class

Help me give my students The opportunity to build independent living skills. High needs special education students are learning to live as independently as possible via self care skills: cooking, cleaning, laundry as well as table settings.

My Project

My special education students are amazingly capable and desperate for independence. With many socio-economic challenges in my community the opportunity to learn daily self care, cooking, cleaning, and social norms are mostly learned at school. We have secured a classroom with an existing kitchen and laundry facility however none of the essentials have been provided. The Life Skills team hopes to start with the basics (no bake) and progress into small meals. We are also teaching how to wash clothes, dishes and personal hygiene. Students in this class are earning a high school certificate f completion along with functional academics and employability skills to lead as independent a life as their disability and determination will allow.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
