Special Education High School Students- Kitchen Update

My Project

Our Community Based Special Education high school students have a strong need to practice various kitchen skills prior to leaving high school and transitioning into the adult world. Our current kitchen is very under stocked. The items and appliances we have are out of date and hard for the students to use.

Our students will be participating in lessons that include the use of basic appliances, measurement of ingredients, following a recipe and steps to clean up the kitchen following the lesson.

Each of these items requested will play a part in their progress towards these adult skills. For example, the thought of making toast seems simple to most people; however, with my students, they need step by step coaching to ensure they follow each step of the recipe while also learning how to use an appliance safety so that they do not injury themselves. Please help us update our classroom kitchen so that our students have the tools they need to make gains towards their daily living skill goals. Thank you in advance for your help in meeting our classroom needs.
