Of course, students could have read the text on their Chromebooks, but that would ironically be ignoring Bradbury's warnings regarding relying on technology rather than our minds, books, and discourse.\r\n\r\nWe began the unit by completing some station rotations about dystopian literature as well as reading a couple short stories and poem by Bradbury and Vonnegut. We also wrote an essay on the impact of technology on relationships, so students were fully prepared to further explore this theme when we began reading the book.\r\n\r\nWhile reading we practiced our literary analysis skills as well, looking for lit devices and discussing their effect in the novel. All this analysis led to an exploration of theme. When we finished the book, students wrote a theme statement then selected two lit devices that helped support that theme. Students then used their creative skills (and paper and colored pencils) to create an image to support it.\r\n\r\nUltimately, reading, writing and creative skills were explored in this thematic unit.","fullyFundedDate":1755734670912,"projectUrl":"project/fahrenheit-451-dystopian-or-reality/9518455/","projectTitle":"Fahrenheit 451: Dystopian or Reality?","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Walp","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8368574"},{"teacherId":2499467,"projectId":9571697,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generosity. Having enough copies for every student completely changed how we were able to study the book. Instead of sharing, photocopying, or trying to follow along with limited materials, each student could hold their own copy, annotate freely, and truly engage with the story.\r\n\r\nThe difference was immediate. Discussions became deeper, students were more confident sharing their thoughts, and many even started reading ahead on their own. Students used their own book to cite evidence to support their opinions. I implemented daily reading last year, and enjoyed watching the students confidence increase throughout the year. The school library has a limited collection of Spanish texts, and between that and my personal classroom collection, the students read pretty much everything available to them. With these new books, I am so excited to have more variety available to them. I am especially excited to have some biographies about people they are already interested in, and more fiction choices by Spanish-speaking authors.","fullyFundedDate":1750251427739,"projectUrl":"project/i-love-reading/9123201/","projectTitle":"I Love Reading!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Adkisson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2499467_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1450493498568","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/adkisson"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_58657","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1376,"numTeachers":66,"percentFrplEligible":49,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":7,"percentWhite":39,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":43,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"20.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":64.4,"schoolId":58657,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Greenway High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Greenway High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arizona/glendale-union-hsd-205/greenway-high-school/58657"}
