Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In a bell work this year, I asked students what they wish they could change in the world and the most common answer they put was they wanted to end bullying. Many of them wrote about personal experiences or experiences of others and it absolutely broke my heart to read about these experiences. Their response to my next question about what they would like to do to make that change was truly inspiring.

Each of these items comes directly from the ideas presented by my students in response to their ideas on how to make people aware of and stop bullying.

To complete this project, my students will use the conversation cards to plan interactive lessons to present to their younger grade peers. They will then use the stickers, candy, and bracelets as incentives and a means to spread their message beyond the lesson they teach. During these lessons, my students will present real situations that are grade appropriate for their audience to help their audience think through why a bully is choosing to bully and how this knowledge can help us stand up to bullies. In planning for and teaching these lessons, my students will become advocates against bullying and become more confident which will help them be better equipped to combat bullying they may experience in their own lives.

Finally, the posters will allow my students to reinforce their message against bullying by putting strong anti-bullying messages across our campus.

This project and the service my students will provide through it will have the capacity to impact all 650 of our Madrid Mustangs so that EVERY student feels safe being at school.
