It has become much more than a piece of technology in our classroom. It is a tool for learning, creativity, motivation, and positive behavior. My students are always excited to see what the printer is creating, and the items we print have quickly become the most coveted prizes in our classroom treasure box.\r\n\r\nMany students use technology at home for games, videos, and social media, but the 3D printer has introduced them to a completely different use of technology. They are learning how a digital design can become a real object that they can hold in their hands. Students are fascinated as they watch the printer build an object one thin layer at a time. This allows them to see the connection between an idea, a digital design, and a finished product.\r\n\r\nThe printer has also helped students learn about patience, planning, and problem-solving. A 3D-printed item does not appear instantly. Students learn that a design must be selected, the printer must be prepared, and the machine needs time to complete the object carefully. They enjoy checking the printer's progress and observing how the design changes throughout the process. This has led to conversations about engineering, manufacturing, design, measurement, and careers that use similar technology.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for my students is having a voice in what we print. They love looking through the available designs and selecting items that match their interests. They might choose an animal, a fidget, a character-inspired object, or another unique creation. Because students help select the designs, the finished products feel special and personal to them. They are not simply choosing a generic prize from a store. They are working toward an item that they helped choose and watched being created in their classroom.\r\n\r\nThe 3D-printed items have become the favorite rewards in our treasure box. Students regularly ask what is printing and how they can earn one of the new prizes. This excitement has resulted in amazing improvements in student behavior. Students are more motivated to follow classroom expectations, complete assignments, remain on task, participate, and make positive choices.\r\n\r\nThis is especially meaningful in my special education classroom, where students may need additional encouragement and positive reinforcement. Some students who previously struggled to stay focused or complete their work have become especially motivated by the opportunity to earn a 3D-printed item. They work harder to meet their classroom and individual behavior goals. Students who are sometimes hesitant to participate are also eager to talk about the printer and share ideas for future designs.\r\n\r\nIt has been wonderful to see students who do not always view themselves as successful become excited and confident. When they earn a printed item, they are proud of both the prize and the positive choices that helped them earn it. The printer has helped students connect effort, perseverance, and responsible behavior with success in a concrete and memorable way.\r\n\r\nI am extremely grateful to the donors who made this experience possible. Your generosity has given my students opportunities to explore technology, express their interests, improve their behavior, and experience success. The enthusiasm the 3D printer has created in our classroom is truly remarkable, and its positive impact continues every day.","fullyFundedDate":1776530618736,"projectUrl":"project/printing-possibilities-empowering-speci/9975150/","projectTitle":"Printing Possibilities: Empowering Special Education Innovators","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Lemieux","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2039975_orig.jpg?crop=370,370,x68,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1564234260234","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2039975"},{"teacherId":2214488,"projectId":9694544,"letterContent":"Thank you so much to our generous donors for providing us with easy-to-use, durable storage and carrying cases for our learning games.
