My Students

We have over 200 dance students and it grows each year. Our dancers are eager to learn and become the best dancers they can. Our high school has a diverse population of over 3000 students, our dance students typically choose to stay in the dance program for all four years of their high school career.

This year our program has two full-time dance teachers, each teaching six dance classes.

We also have an after-school dance company and a National Honor Society of Dance Arts that meets twice a month during lunch.

My Project

This summer I plan to take a group of my high school dance students to New York City. For most of these students it will be their first time traveling to NYC, and for a few, the first time traveling out of state! Each year in my dance classes we put on productions for the school and community, and I want my students to have the opportunity to see a live, professional production on Broadway.

My students work hard on their performance skills, and I want them to see how those skills can translate into a career.

While on our trip, the students will also be going to a professional dance studio to take classes to work on their craft.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
