Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our parents send their very best students to our school. They are creative, resilient, resourceful, full of life and energy. Our students are on track for being our world leaders, doctors, lawyers, merchants, laborers, and purveyors of the arts. They represent our society to come, and every day is an honor to work with them.
Our students are energetic, eager to learn and express themselves through the multifaceted subject of drama.
They reveal their hidden talents and abilities daily.
My Project
Percussion instruments have a long history of lending sound effects to skits, plays, performances, and learning. A students knowledge base starts in the classroom. Students will use these instruments to add audio cues for actors and add a dramatic effect to skits they work on in the classroom. Some students prefer instruments over acting and this collection allows them the freedom to explore their talents.
These instruments are the backbone and infrastructure of student performance.
When deciding on projects for DonorsChoose.org, I select items that will benefit many students over years of service, and not just one season. The cajon is two-voiced (two heads - one snare, one natural) and of quality build, and the African Heartwood promotes a local economy for artisans in West Africa. The Djembe comes with a goatskin head for a more natural tone. The bono-tuned tongue drum will add tonal effect, is simple to use, and adds unusual sound to our soundscape.
It has been a great honor to receive all the items from DonorsChoose.org. All the projects have made a great difference in student learning and my teaching. More importantly, it makes my classroom a much more enjoyable space, which can be heard in my students' voices. I feel like DonorsChoose.org has been instrumental in supporting our drama elective and an important tool to enrich a deeper, more meaningful understanding of drama in my students.
