My students need engaging games and books like 'Learning to get Along' to learn appropriate social skills, problem solving, coping skills, and conflict resolution.
More than three-quarters of our students are living in poverty. They often lack the basics; food, clean clothes, and sometimes, a stable home and address. Many of them arrive at school hungry, stressed, or sleep deprived. They are often without adult supervision; learning functional life skills on their own.
Many of our children lack the basic and broad range of social skills they need to be successful in life.
This is where our program, Tier II, steps in. My students and I focus on learning appropriate social skills, coping skills, problem-solving, and conflict resolution. Together, we work on making better choices, recognizing our potential, and striving to set and reach our goals.
My Project
Children learn best when their minds, spirit, and bodies are engaged. When they are interested and excited about a topic, they remember what they've learned. They ask for more.
Games and books are the perfect resources for teaching social skills, problem-solving, coping strategies, and conflict resolution to children.
These lessons are fun and meaningful in a game format. Games reinforce other important skills too; playing fair, being a gracious winner, and appropriately accepting defeat.
Picture books provide visual support to help children understand and encourage learning through the spoken word. Books inspire discussion and conversation. They make the world and important topics make sense.
