Our students are a diverse and busy bunch, ranging from kindergarten to fifth grade. The vast majority of them are living in poverty. Many are living in single parent homes, with foster families, and a few reside in a shelter. My students attend our Tier II program with a spectrum of abilities and needs. Many of the children are students with ADHD or other health impairments and have an intense need to move and fidget as they learn. Some have learning disabilities, emotional disturbances, while others just need extra academic support and guidance. Many of our students arrive each day in Tier II eager to learn but lacking the social skills to do so. They too need extra guidance and support, encouragement and practice, to learn alongside their peers. This is a significant focus of our program.
