Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is full of students who have learned and strived to want and expect the best from themselves. We have spent our year not only focused on curriculum and their education but also their well-being. It shocked me to see how little self-confidence, and trust these students had in themselves. Throughout the year I have seen them grow so much academically and in their social-emotional well-being.

Because these students have parents who have been frontline workers through the pandemic, they have spent a great deal of time on their own and with their siblings.

This has impacted how they act, react, and feel about the world around them. I have the tools to help them catch up on their reading and math skills but need more tools to help them, and also give them a space in our classroom where they can work through and deal with those big thoughts and feelings.

My Project

These resources would allow us to first, set up a space within our classroom where students can go to decompress and process BIG feelings and emotions. Secondly, it would allow me to provide materials at each student desk that would allow them a physical tool to aid in dealing with anxiety, stress, and restlessness. Third, a journal for each student that would help guide them and teach them ways to write through and process their feelings. And finally, there are materials that would allow me to better understand and find tools that I can better teach and support my students in learning coping and processing skills.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
