My students need soccer goals, balls, and scooters for recess. The soccer goals will allow them to actually play in a team-like atmosphere. This will benefit the entire school of all ages, Pre-K through 5th.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is located on the southwest side of Oklahoma City. We are an urban school with over 90% English Language Learners. All students are enrolled in a 100% free breakfast and lunch programs. Many of our students face adversities such as poverty, language needs, and even homelessness.

Our students deserve a chance to thrive in learning!

As a community school, we work hard to provide resources for them to learn in different ways, but we do not always have the funds to support this.

My Project

I have chosen these specific materials because right now, our students have only one toy designated for smaller children. This will allow them to not only be more active, but build teamwork and find interests they may not have found otherwise.

Many scientists have proven that exercise helps with executive functions like sequencing, memory, and prioritizing which contribute to necessary skills for success in school and life, but put simply, physical activity in school primes the brain for learning.

Soccer is very popular at our school, but as of now only the only older kids are allowed to play competitively. This will allow all student of all ages to participate. The jump ropes, basketballs, and scooters will allow students not as interested in soccer an opportunity to still move and play with their friends. Physical activity helps improve academic achievement which is our main goal.
