Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Every year I provide snacks in my classroom for all students each day. If a student is hungry, then they are not able to access the learning part of their brain. I approach teaching in a very whole child approach and want each child to know that they have access to food in my classroom each day that goes beyond the free breakfast and lunch they are provided by the school.

My students have a sense of safety and security knowing that even if they did not eat at home before school, they will always have access to food when they enter my first grade classroom.

For this project, I added many different food items that I know the kids love and gave them many different options (including dairy free and gluten free options). The goldfish, applesauce, and fruit snacks are always a hit with each group of students that come through my doors.

Having access to snacks helps my students be able to focus and be in their learning brain. Food helps their body and mind helping them become the best students they can be!
