Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a Title I campus in which at least 88% of our student population receives free or reduced-price lunch. The campus has decided that they will feed all students breakfast and lunch. We are surrounded by other school districts that are less than 10% reduced, yet somehow our students still strive for greatness and beat them in academic competitions (pre-covid). We have a population of 70% English as a second language students as well. Needless to say, we are a highly diverse campus that outworks its goals each and every year.

We are great at science but need some materials for research.

My classroom is a unique mix of kids in which the first two class periods are primarily filled with state-recognized gifted or talented students. The other two science classes I teach are full of students who are recognized as at-risk. When looking at the projects of these students, it is highly difficult to determine which project came from which group.

My Project

This is a pretty basic list of supplies for students here. We hold after school tutorials three days a week. Most of the students in the school, especially in 4th grade, do not eat much at home. Our campus offers free lunch and breakfast to all. With an extra long school day, they are going to get hungry.

These supplies will allow students to focus much more on academics rather than rumbling stomachs.

I surveyed the student body to find their favorite snacks and after checking the list, the students gave an overwhelming thumbs up.
