Students also practice identifying characters, setting, and themes, as well as retelling stories and making predictions all key skills for becoming strong, confident readers.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is active, joyful, and collaborative. Students spend time in independent reading, small groups, and partner reading. They choose books that interest them, which increases motivation and excitement. During reading time, you might see students laughing at a funny page, reading aloud with a partner, or discussing their favorite characters. We also incorporate activities like retelling stories and sharing ideas, helping students build both language and confidence in a supportive environment.\r\n\r\nYes, many of my students especially those who are still gaining confidence in Spanish are especially excited about these books. Some students who were previously hesitant to read in Spanish are now eager to pick up a book because they recognize the characters and enjoy the humor. The visuals help them understand the story, which builds confidence and encourages them to keep reading. They have already made a meaningful impact on our learning environment. When the students first received them, they were absolutely ecstatic. Having the lap desks has given our classroom more flexible seating options, allowing students to comfortably spread out, collaborate, and engage more deeply in their work.\r\n\r\nThe timing was especially perfect as our class began our chick life cycle project. Students have been using the lap desks while observing the chicks, recording their observations, drawing and writing about each stage of the life cycle. The lap desks have made it much easier for students to sit near the brooder area and still have a stable space to write and work. In addition, many visiting students from other classes have come to observe the chicks, and the lap desks have helped accommodate everyone so they can participate in the learning experience.\r\n\r\nThese lap desks have truly enhanced our classroom's flexibility and engagement. They will continue to be used for years to come as part of many future projects, observations, and collaborative learning experiences.
