Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

What I love most about my students is their resilience, kindness, and eagerness to learn. Many of my students are minority learners and English Language Development (ELD) students from low-income households. They come to school each day ready to do their best, even when they face challenges outside of the classroom.

Because our lunch is not until 12:30, many students become hungry well before then.

Hunger makes it difficult for them to focus, participate, and fully engage in learning. Providing snacks such as chips and juice throughout the day will help meet a basic need so students can concentrate, stay energized, and feel supported in a safe and caring environment.

These snacks will allow students to refuel during long learning blocks, improve attention and behavior, and ensure they are ready to learn. When students’ basic needs are met, they are better able to build language skills, collaborate with peers, and grow academically. This project will help create an equitable classroom where every child has the nourishment they need to succeed.
